Berlin's science and technology hub -- modern living where research, media, and innovation converge in southeast Berlin.
Adlershof has transformed from a quiet corner of southeast Berlin into one of Germany's most important science and technology hubs. The WISTA Science and Technology Park, commonly known as Adlershof Science City, is home to over 1,200 companies and 10 non-university research institutes, along with a major campus of Humboldt University. If you are coming to Berlin for a research position, a tech job, or a startup role, there is a good chance your workplace is here or nearby.
The neighborhood itself has a distinctly modern feel compared to the Altbau-heavy inner city. Many of the residential buildings are newer construction with good insulation, elevators, and balconies -- practical advantages that older Berlin apartments often lack. The streets are wider, there is more green space between buildings, and the overall density is lower. It is not the place to come for Berlin's legendary nightlife or cobblestone charm, but for day-to-day livability and commute efficiency, it is hard to beat if you work in the science park.
Adlershof also benefits from being a media hub. The Studio Adlershof complex houses television productions and media companies, adding a creative dimension to the tech-focused environment. For leisure, the Landscape Park Adlershof offers running paths and green space, and the older residential streets near the S-Bahn station have a selection of restaurants, bakeries, and shops. Rents are significantly lower than in central Berlin, making it attractive for researchers and professionals who want to save money while living close to work.
